Pedestal Rocks Loop Trail is located in the Pedestal Rocks Scenic Area of the Ozark National Forest in Pelsor, AR. The Kings Bluff Trail shares the trailhead here as well, which features one of the largest waterfalls in the state. Pedestal Rocks Loop is a fairly easy 2 1/2 mile roundtrip trail with a HUGE scenic payoff at the end! These amazing sandstone columns have been weathered and formed into giant “pedestals” which give you a spectacular birdseye panoramic view of the valley of the Illinois Bayou’s North Fork.
Part of the trail will take you below the formations as well, where you’ll find more columns, deep crevices, caves, rock shelters, etc. You can explore around here for quite a while! We only saw this area from up top though since we were losing day light so we decided to save this part of the trail for another day.
Directions: The turnoff for Pedestal Rocks is located off of Scenic Hwy 7 on Hwy 16, just East of Pelsor/Sand Gap. This intersection is located approx. 28 miles north of Dover (near Russellville) and approx. 28 miles south of Jasper on Scenic Hwy 7. Turn East onto Hwy 16, and go approx. 5.9 miles to the entrance on your right.
Trail Length: 2 1/2 miles roundtrip
Trail Difficulty: Easy/Moderate but the bluffs are extremely dangerous areas! I’d say this could be a kid friendly trail, just keep them close to you on the bluffs!
**Kings Bluff Loop is located at the same trailhead. If you do both trails together it’s 4.3 miles total.
-Public Restroom: Yes, located in parking lot
